Miranda Derrick, TikTok star and central figure in the series “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult,” stated in an Instagram post that she and her husband are receiving death threats after the release of the Netflix documentary.

In the video posted on Monday, June 10, the social media influencer revealed all the negative attention she and her husband James allegedly received after the series premiered on May 29. The three-episode documentary shows how Derrick met her husband and how the couple joined the Shekinah Church, which Netflix describes as “a cult disguised as a management company.”

“Before this documentary, my husband and I felt safe. Now that it’s out, we feel our lives have been put in danger,” she says in the clip. Derrick mentions in the clip that she and her husband have even been followed in their cars.

“We’ve received hate letters and death threats. People have been messaging us to commit suicide. We’ve been stalked,” she said. “Someone said, ‘if I see you on the street, I’m going to get you, so you better call security.’ Someone also said, ‘if I see you walking on the sidewalk, I’m going to shove you in the trunk of my car.’”

For Derrick, her family did not consider the consequences the series would bring: “Honestly, I don’t understand how my parents and sister thought this documentary would help me or our relationship in any way. I just don’t get it,” she says in the post.

She mentions that she and her family had been privately meeting “for the past two years” to “fix” their relationship, but now their progress has been halted due to recent events.
“Honestly, I think my parents, my sister focused so much on this documentary that they forgot to work on any relationship with me, and that hurts. It hurts to say that.”

The documentary follows a group of TikTok dancers who work at a talent management company called 7M, led by Robert Shinn, a pastor of a church called Shekinah.

Former church members claim that Shinn allegedly demanded a significant portion of their income and isolated them from their family and friends. He has denied all accusations and also filed a defamation lawsuit against several of his accusers in the documentary.

Melanie, Miranda’s sister, and her parents have been desperately trying to get her out of the supposed “cult” after losing contact with her in 2021. Following the series’ release, Derrick released a statement on her social media saying that the “documentary is a one-sided story” and that she is not a “victim.”
